Requiem Mass for Fr. Chapuli at the Lagos Cathedral

The Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie has disposed that a Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Fr. James Chapuli be celebrated in the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, on Wednesday November 14th 2007 at 10.00 am.

This news was confirmed during the funeral Mass of Rev. Fr. Patrick Adegbite at the Holy Cross Cathedral, on Thursday 8th of November.

Fr. Chapuli died in the morning of September 25, 2007 and has since been buried.  He was ordained a priest of Opus Dei on the 6th August 1966.  He came to Nigeria in 1969, invited by St. Josemaria Escriva, to help begin the apostolic work in our country. After a brief stint in Ibadan, Fr. James would spend the rest of his life in Lagos, during which period he became a Nigerian citizen.

Like all the priests of the Prelature of Opus Dei, Fr. Chapuli always saw his work as supporting and helping to strengthen the evangelizing enterprise of the local church as directed by the Bishop.  Moreover he collaborated closely with the Archbishop of Lagos in different tasks.  At the time of his death he was his Censor Deputatus in the Archdiocese.

Many faithful are expected to attend this concelebrated Requiem Mass.
